October - Flowering Up

This month I was thrilled to attend the Art of Weddings Wedding Fair at the Royal Cornwall Showground. Not only did I get the opportunity to meet prospective couples seeking Wedding flowers for their special day and showcase the benefits and beauty of homegrown seasonal flowers, I also had the chance to flower up some fantastic props belonging to other suppliers. The highlight being a Moon Arch which I greened up with foliage including variegated Pittosporum, Cornus, Ivy, Copper Beech and Jasmine, covering the chicken wire and moss compartments that I had enclosed round the arch. In order to give the blooms a water source, I cable tied glass Pesto jars filled with water to the frame. These were filled with Dahlias, Cosmos and Zinnias which I grouped in colour banks to create an ombre of colour over the arch. So all sustainably created and foam-free!

Thank you to all the lovely couples that took the time to stop by my stand, I am really excited to be growing, designing and styling your Wedding Flowers!

Now back at the flower patch, the hard work continues, potting on Autumn sown hardy annuals, mulching the beds that I have recently cleared, wrapping up the spent Dahlias into their hibernating homes, digging trenches ready for an army of Tulips to go in next month, pre-sprouting Ranunculus corms, planting Narcissi bulbs and creating some no dig beds on a new plot for next year. It is grubby work and I may never have fingernails worth painting again, but working in the fresh air and learning all the time is just where I want to be. And all the while, Iā€™m dreaming of the stunning Bridal bouquets that I will get to create next year.
